Maria Miranda Studio grew out of the childhood dreams of its founder, Maria Miranda. Her inspiration began in a small rural town in Northern Brazil, and grew as she observed varied cultures from the five countries where she has lived.
As a child, Maria was intrigued by fabrics. Her step-mother owned a retail fabrics store in Brazil. Maria would visit the store and imagined designing her own pretty dresses.
Maria came to the United States to study at New York University. Her studies and career began in the field of Computer Technology; however, the corporate world did not motivate her. She knew she wanted a career that centered around something feminine and fashionable.
Her lifelong dream came true one cold winter day when she stumbled into a used garments store and found a black velvet beret that did not fit her. She went home and created her own unique one-size-fits-all beret, “The Winter Companion”, which can be worn in three different styles. The next day she was stopped on every corner with questions about her fabulous beret and people asked where they could by one. Her answer was, “Right here, I’m taking orders!” Next day, she purchased fabrics to make more berets and started her fashion journey.
Maria went on to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, where she studied tailoring and pattern making. Her early fashion career began at Calvin Klein. She also worked as a dresser for Isabel Toledo and Miu Miu during New York’s Fashion Week.
Today Maria manages her bridal studio, Maria Miranda Studios of Los Angeles, which sells designer wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses, customizes plus size and maternity gowns, and provides expert bridal alterations.
When Maria is not in her studio in Los Angeles, she enjoys traveling and working as a Costumer/Wardrobe for Ice and Production Shows on Royal Caribbean International cruise ships.
Maria Miranda Studio is currently creating designs to launch their Spring 2011 line of pretty dresses and blouses using the beautiful cotton piques, bamboo blends, and organic cottons.
